Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in love, life and everything in between. Hope you have a nice stay!

Weekends are SO Important

I have been the type of person that when I have a long, stressful week by the weekend I want to be antisocial. I want to sit at home, eat crappy food and watch as much TV as I can handle (DVR, Netflix and Hulu).

On this journey of living my best life I have realized being antisocial is not always a good plan. Getting out and enjoying life is WAY better.

If you don’t know I love research and google makes it easy, so I googled and found this below:

A study published in the Journal of Social and Clinical Psychology looked at the moods of a group of participants aged 18 to 62 - all employed for at least 30 hours per week. Over the three week period, study participants were contacted three time daily - in the morning, afternoon and evening - and asked to complete a brief questionnaire about happiness. The results revealed that both men and women feel mentally and physically better at the weekends, irrespective of how many hours they work, what they do and how much money they make (1). Marital status and age seemed to have no bearing on the results of the study either, but why?

Participants reported fewer aches and pains as well as better moods from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon. Leader of the research, Professor Richard Ryan, said, "Workers, even those with interesting, high status jobs, really are happier on the weekend. Our findings highlight just how important free time is to an individual's well-being. Far from being frivolous, the relatively unfettered time on weekends provides critical opportunities for bonding with others, exploring interests and relaxing. These are basic psychological needs that people should be careful not to crowd out with overwork."

It's thought the higher levels of freedom we have at the weekends, coupled with control over what we do with our time, are responsible for the feelings of happiness we get when Friday comes around. Psychologists also found that the ability to spend time with family members and close friends at the weekend boosted mood. Because the week is filled with activities which create pressure and demands on our time, often leading to stress, we look forward to weekends, as they're 'our' time.

With that being said, this past weekend was one of the best! It was filled with random things I had never done and it was awesome.

First up I went to Craft Love https://craftloveusa.com/franklin/. Craft Love is a wood sign DIY workshop that allows you to use wood, hammers and drills. This is by far the best way to end a long, stressful week and let me tell you my last week SUCKED! At the beginning you have to distress your wood which means you get to bang on it, beat it up and any other thing you can do to make it look older. Add wine and snacks and it was an amazing night. Craft Love is great for a girl’s night, birthday outing, date night or you could go alone.

Saturday was a full day for me. I left home around noonish and did not get back until 9ish or so, but I had the best day.

First up I did a little thrift shopping…found a few cute pieces I am excited to wear.

Next up was lunch. I like to try new places, so we tried a new place called The Mainstay https://themainstayrestaurant.com/. It was pretty good…It’s a sports bar and they have a lot of TVs with all the different games showing. I am not a sports person, but if I was I would have been in heaven. My friend definitely was. She and the other people had some outburst due to the games LOL!

After lunch we were headed to our last destination of the day, but she had to go to the restroom. We ended up stopping at the Brentwood Library and OMG they were having a book sale. If you know me then you know I LOVE books so I had to shop. I ended up purchasing four books for $9. That’s a steal.

I ended my Saturday viewing $2 million plus dollar homes. The Parade of Homes http://www.theparadeofhomes.org/ is an annual event produced by the Home Builders Association of Middle Tennessee. I have always wanted to go, but always found an excuse (usually lying in the bed LOL) but not this year. There were six homes that were created by some of the industry’s top builders. The homes were ah-mazing and unless I hit the lottery I am pretty sure my next home will not look exactly like this, but there were three things I have decided my next home will have.

1.   A fenced-in outdoor space

2.   A claw-foot tub

3.   A pink closet

It’s over this year, but make sure and place it on your calendar for next year. It is definitely worth it.

My weekend was amazing and although I didn’t get as much rest as I like, I wouldn’t trade it for anything. The best thing is that while I was enjoying my weekend, not one time, did I think about work. Typically, when I alienate myself in my house, all I think about is the upcoming work week.

As I always say I’m growing so I can't say I will not have another antisocial weekend, but I’m definitely going to make sure and have more weekends like my past one.

Signed,

CC (Crowned CaNesha)
